Minnee in Korea Day 4 & 5 : Jeju

We went to Jeju island for 2 days,
where I fell sick unfortunately due to the rain from the previous day.

As a result, we didn't visit many places which I wanted to visit initally
so I'm just going to condense the 2 days into one post.

Our mode of transport in Jeju was by cab.
I thought of renting a cab for those 2 days initially but since we wanted to spend more
time at each place + my mum and I weren't well enough to go so many places,
we decided to just cab from place to place separately.

An English-speaking (or Chinese-speaking) driver
would cost 150,000 KRW (about 180 SGD) for 8 hours a day.
Turns out our way of cabbing around was much cheaper, even with admission tickets included.
Renting a cab would be more worth it if you're visiting a lot of places.

Here's the video for Jeju, behind-the-scenes included!

DAY 4

We took a cab from our guest house in Gyeongbokgung area to Gimpo Airport
and the journey was around half an hour for 20,000 KRW.
The taxi driver dropped us off at the international flight terminal and we took the
airport shuttle bus to the domestic terminal.

Because we were only away from Duri House for a night,
Mrs Yim let us leave our big suitcases at her place and we packed our stuff into
the smaller suitcases.

Had a scare because I forgot we weren't checking in anything and
I brought along my toner and moisturiser which were in bottles that are
usually too large for hand-carry.
Luckily they told us it's okay for domestic flights!

Had breakfast at the airport before boarding the plane.

Omurice!

View from the plane~

Weirdly enough, I was okay before the flight and I only started feeling sick after the flight.
It was super cold in Jeju because of the strong winds and snow,
which didn't help since I was sick :(

Took a limousine bus from the airport and the fare depends on where you get off.
We took the bus to Seogwipo, which was the nearest to our hotel,
and it cost us 5,500 KRW each.
The ride was quite long, 1 hour plus I think.
I was slipping in and out of sleep the whole journey.

We stayed at Ocean Palace Hotel, which was about 15 to 20min of walking from
where the bus dropped us off.
Just an estimate, because I was really unwell and the cold wind was blasting in my face
so it felt like forever to me.

We finally reached the hotel, but we were told that we had to wait
because check-in time was at 3pm.
They upgraded one of our rooms to some deluxe room because the normal
room we wanted wasn't available.
We waited at the hotel lobby and the convenience store at the hotel till check-in time.

Too relieved to finally have a shelter over our heads that I forgot to take a video
of the room or snap more pictures :/
The first thing we did once we entered the room was to dive onto the bed lol.

It was really not bad leh the room!
We had a sea view but the sea was far away la.

We were super reluctant to leave the comfort of our bed lolol.
After some nua-ing, we finally left to visit the Teddy Bear Museum.

TEDDY BEAR MUSEUM

I've been wanting to visit the Teddy Bear Museum
ever since I watched the drama Princess Hours, and that was like in 2006!

My bro carry the bag until like some garbage bag LOL.

Mona Lisa

Those little bears are so cute!

Hello Mr Van Gogh

OMG I FINALLY SAW THEM IN PERSON AHHHHHHH

Love the details on the tutu <3

All those details on the outfits!

ALFRED! ALFRED I LOVE YOUUUUUU

These were on sale omg I want :(

They had different themes and it's very interesting to see the bears in various costumes.

Those glass cases had bears that looked like fruits LOL.

Look who I spotted!
That purple bear with a white heart is exactly the same as my childhood bear,
and I named her Beany last time.
She is super precious to me like how Teddy is to Mr Bean LOL.

Elvis Bears-ly HAHA.
They even have a "concert" where the mini version of these bears would perform on stage!
Can check out my video for a short snippet of it hehe.

WATAAAAA~ Bears Lee!

Breakfast at Teddy's lolol.

This is a subtle advertisement for Apple. Haha!

Super happy... because I got to sit down and rest for awhile lol.

Took this photo many times because I looked super cui and exhausted in every photo.
Had to force smile lor cuz really super tired.
I think I looked natural enough after many tries hahaha.

I think Teddy Bear Museum is special in a way that you can see a lot of teddy bears
in all shapes and sizes wearing different outfits in different scenes.
We finished viewing the bears in about an hour,
but I think we missed out the museum garden.
Those who love teddy bears should definitely visit!

ALIVE MUSEUM

We had 10% discount for the admission to Alive Museum, thanks to Eastarjet
(there were discounts for various stuff printed at the bottom of our plane ticket).

Took a cab from Teddy Bear Museum to Alive Museum.
The taxi driver asked us which country we were from and when we told him
Singapore, he charged us 3,000KRW.
Not sure if he charged us more expensive because we were tourists...
But ok la, that's like 4 dollars lo, got 4 of us so quite worth it.

First of all, I would like to say that the museum is very NC16, and even R21.
Disclaimer: Nudity and sexually explicit themes.
If you are below 16, please close your eyes and scroll all the way down.
(As if you would actually do that right.)

!

!!

!!!

!!!!

!!!!!

Many of them are placed at this stretch of gallery that you have to walk
through once you enter the museum.

Parents, you should blindfold your kids before entering lol.

Uhhh okay...

This one getting his passport photo painted.

The artist doesn't even look at his artwork while painting. So zai ah.

Took a lot of tries to make sure the milk went into his mouth!

Feet turned out, back straight, posture somewhat correct.
Sulao must be proud of his student HAHA.

This one maybe not LOL.

Sian, only guys can do this without their hair giving the trick away.

Pretty shitty (pun intended) day for me.

Spread our wings and flyyyyyyyy.

I'm a Barbie girl in a Barbie store.
With a creepy doll that wears a removable wig.

That face tho.

This one is cool!
It's a room with the furniture placed in a way such that mirror each other.
And my bro didn't know he could cross over to the other side of the "mirror"
cuz he really though it was a mirror zzz.

Because staying on the floor is too mainstream.

I think I look both in pain and blissful at the same time I don't know why.

Now we know where he came from.

The ogre's face like a bit weird...

I haven't been to the Alive Museum in SG yet so I can't compare,
but I do prefer it to the Trickeye Museum in SG.
I know it's unfair to compare like this la haha cuz don't know if SG's Trickeye is the
same as Korea's Trickeye.
But I personally feel that Alive Museum is cooler in the sense that there are
artworks that make use of multimedia and are more interactive in that sense.

Me and my bro were so tired that we kept finding places to sit, like hobo liddat.
Sometimes we would sit at some random place and pretend that we were
looking at our photos on my camera LOL.
Bad example haha please don't learn from us.
Still, I think it's worth the money because we had a lot of fun despite being exhausted.

It's a great place to visit with your family and friends.
Let your creative juices flow and flood the place!

Admission fees for individuals:
Adults - 9,000 KRW
Teens - 8,000 KRW
Children - 7,000 KRW

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By the time we came out of the museum it was quite late already.

Look at the crazy snow outside!

The lady at the ticketing counter was super nice and she helped us to
book a cab which arrived in like 5 minutes.

Took a nap after we were back in our room before
heading down for dinner because I was running a fever by then.

Ate at this restaurant called Crab Bee, which was located at the first floor of the hotel.
It was surprisingly good!

 Snow Crab Ramen

Marinated Crab Bibimbap

Steamed Snow Crab

 Their scissors damn cool!

The owner (I think) of the shop was super nice.
He gave us this bowl for free and told us it was their dinner.
It's similar to our Yong Tau Foo haha.

My dad was so impressed by their food, he even asked some random
tourists who were outside the restaurant to come and try their food lolol.
Then people come in liao he keep recommending them what to eat
and tell them the food is good.

When my dad goes like that I think it means the food is really good.
Sorry I couldn't judge for myself because I had no appetite and only
managed to try some ramen and bibimbap.
I was really impressed by their service and hospitality though!

DAY 5

Woke up to a beautiful view from our window because of all the snow.

Here's a view of the sea from our room.

I woke up feeling super dizzy.
My world was spinning as I tried to get to the toilet to bathe.
Felt much better after vomiting once, it was like having motion sickness.

Me and my mum wanted to eat porridge so we asked the hotel receptionist if there were any restaurants nearby which sold abalone porridge and she was very helpful!
She printed a map and drew out the directions for us.
And off we go after checking out~

Pretty flowerbeds by the roadside <3

The restaurant was called Sambo Shik Dang (삼보식당) and it took us about 15 minutes
to walk there from our hotel.

Their kimchi stew was heavenly.
My mum and I agree that it's one of the best we've tried during this trip.

Abalone porridge!
It appealed to my appetite despite my stomach feeling queasy.
Not bad, I would say!

Seafood Stew

This is something I've never eaten before.
It's like a little lobster because the shell is hard unlike the usual prawns.

I think the food was not bad, although the service could be better.
The place was teeming with locals and we were the only foreigners.
The staff took our orders but the food didn't come, and even those
who came after us were served before us.
We were famished by the time the food finally came.
Food was good but service definitely needs some improvement.

Grabbed a cab after breakfast and went to O' Sulloc Green Tea Museum.
By the time we reached the place, I was feeling much better already.

We headed to their museum first.
There were a lot of tea sets on display but I think I couldn't really appreciate them.
I mean, they looked pretty but I'm not really a teapot kind of person.

Finally got to try the green tea ice cream I craved for!
We also tried their green tea cake and green tea latte with soya milk.

I think the latte was kinda mehh.

Wandered around outside afterwards and chanced upon the Innisfree shop.
To be honest I didn't do much research on the place so I didn't know about it.
We were about to leave without going in when we saw this large area
where people were making soap.
We wanted to try too!

How cute are their displays?
They remind me of the separating funnels in our chem lab lol.

We chose to make the green tea soap.
1 kit is enough for 2 people and it cost us 15,000 KRW (about 18 SGD).
Each "workspace" has an ipad which you can swipe to guide you through the whole process.
There were stamps and gold shimmery powder for us to decorate our soap.
The rubber mat allowed us to create textures on our soap (although I didn't use it)
and there were moulds at the side as well.

You can check out my video (posted above) to see the process.
Didn't manage to capture the decorating part because my memory card was full.
Don't worry when you see us kneading the soap, we washed our hands
before starting and wet wipes were provided for us to clean our hands.

These are the final products!
The ones on the left were made by my brother while the ones on the right were made by me.

The very last step was to package our soap nicely with the wax paper provided
and keep the paper in place with the stickers.

And we're done! Woohoo!

Afterwards we cabbed to the airport because we missed the bus and the
next bus was the time of our flight.
We couldn't find a cab because it was quite far from the city area,
but a staff helped us to call and book a cab.
Very helpful and sincere in helping us. (Y)
My bro said his English was even better than ours LOL.
Had to lend him my phone to use cuz he said they weren't allowed to
use the cafe's phone or something.

Took some last photos at the tea plantation opposite the museum before the taxi came.

Spot me!

The ride to the airport cost 30,000 KRW
and we had some time to buy some oranges and chocolates before boarding.

I think the green tea museum had nothing much luhh.
Mostly selling green tea related stuff.

The soap-making, though, was a really nice experience for us.
I don't think it's something we might get to try if we were on a guided tour.
Too time-consuming haha.
We spent almost an hour making our soap LOL.

Admission to the Green Tea Museum is free.

Thank you for reading!
I actually enjoy making the videos a lot haha.

I enjoyed making them :)
