The Hello Kitty Craze

This will be my last post before I stop for the upcoming week of common tests! Okay so let's start my grandmother story!
 

After queuing for 7hours (from 12am to 7am) on Wednesday, I finally managed to get my Singing Bone Hello Kitty!!! *applauses and cheers*

 

 

Finally... It's mine...

It was my first time queueing so long for a soft toy. The sale of the kitties started at 630am, but by 2am people were quarreling and having heated arguments with the Mcdonald's manager.

 

So what's the big deal about Hello Kitty? It's just a soft toy mah, a kitty with no mouth somemore..

But no, people are willing to pay super high prices for it, which I actually think is crazy la.. A few thousand for a kitty?
 

For me, I only joined the Kitty craze towards the end because I only wanted the Ugly Duckling one. I woke up at 8am that day they started selling but I heard that it was already sold out and I was like what?! Then I immediately bathed and changed and got out to search it.
 

I searched every mac I could think of but it was all sold out! It was about 1pm when I finally gave up and went to meet up with Rachel for a lunch...

 

 

And then my friend told me he can help me find the kitties! Woohoo! So Zhane bought 2 kitties for me (one for me and one for my aunt) at $25 each. Thank you again if you're reading this haha!

So from the Ugly Duckling kitty episode I realised that for people who couldn't queue for the kitty we don't really have a choice unless we have really nice friends who are willing to give it away for free or sell it at cost price (meal plus kitty).

I decided to queue for the Singing Bone kitty at 11am but because I didn't have experience queuing for the previous kitties and I wasn't following news about long queues, I didn't know that people started queuing as early as 8am. LOL. There were two macs near our place and we went the one nearest first but there was no queue and we were so happy!! Until the manager told us they were only selling it at 630am... So we went to the next one and the queue was super long. We were queuing with our aunt and uncle for about an hour before they told us there was no more hello kitty because coupons that enable you to buy a kitty were all given out.

 

 

So we had no choice luhh, had to go back to the mac that starts selling at 630am. We were contemplating whether to go home and sleep till 3 and queue or just queue from 12.. And we decided to stay and queue. Of course we told our family! I even went home to take notes and homework for me and my bro lor.. Super unlucky the lift was down and I had to walk a longer distance to use another lift then climb down the stairs. And it was 1am and I was all alone! (My bro was queuing) So scary ok!
 

When I finally packed all the stuff me and my bro needed I received a text from my bro that they were giving out the coupons already so I had to run down 9 floors with 2 heavy bags and chiong all the way to mac. Talk about midnight exercise. I almost died. So huff and puff and I ran all the way to mac. Just nice they were starting to give out the coupons. So we all just took 4 each because we were at the front of the queue. For me I was helping myself, my aunt and my 2 friends. My bro wanted to give his friends or sell. So we had 8 in total. By the time the person reached the middle of the queue she had to give 2 coupons to each person only, otherwise there wouldn't be enough. And I think (I think la) they ran out of coupons soon after that. So that was when people started to be unhappy lor. They argued and argued with the person at 2am. When sale of the kitties would only start at 630am. And all for a kitty. So the managers came out to talk to them and after what seemed like a long time they finally brought out more coupons and gave the people at the back 2 coupons each. Lol I don't know why they wanna keep the coupons for. So they can sell them later in the day?

 

 

Who knew such tiny pieces of paper could be worth so much?

But they were nice enough to provide us with free flow of cordial juice la so ok lor people were appeased. Hahaha. Typical. For the rest of the night I was doing some revision cuz my phone was low on battery and I didn't charge my portable charger. We were also chatting with other people in the queue and to be honest it was quite a fun experience. Like chalet sia just that I was doing revision lol.
 

When I finally got the kitties at about 7am I was super happy, like I FINALLY GOT THEM. Our queue was so much shorter compared to those macs selling at 12am, prolly because most people have to work and they need their sleep. In the morning some people wanted to get breakfast, only to be greeted by our long queue (for them) and they have no choice but to skip their meal or go elsewhere to eat. And I think not much people knew they were selling at 630am at this mac because they thought every mac will be selling at 12am  islandwide. When you sell or give your kitty away, you will really heart pain because you think back on the hours you spent to queue for it (unless you are just money-driven). Queuing for the kitty was just for experience to me, cuz I can make do with or without the Singing Bone since I already got my ugly duckling. And it's not ugly at all please!!! I personally think it's the cutest out of the whole series haha.

 

 

Can it be eaten?

Really, if you are not a serious Hello Kitty collector, this kitty you spent so much effort to get will just make friends with dirt and dust at some corner of your house a few years down the road. It isn't worth it to fight over a kitty. There have been reports and videos of grown men fighting over it and people confronting managers. There was one I saw with mostly men  scolding this female staff and not letting her have the chance to answer them. Call themselves men? I think it's shameful.

I also think it's insane how they mark up the prices on ebay. It's just a soft toy but the price some people pay is just... Don't know what went on in their minds.

For those people calling us crazy for queuing like this for a soft toy, I think it's the same as those queuing for tickets to watch their idol's concerts. We are not crazy, it's just a difference in what we want. Although many people queue so they can sell it at high prices to earn profits, I think it was hard to fetch a high price unless you are lucky some Hello Kitty fan wants yours. People can get it from Taobao easily at a much much cheaper price! Haha this can be a case study for Econs liao.
 

So yeahh, from this Hello Kitty craze I experienced how it feels like to be a buyer and a seller under such situations, so it's cool haha. Don't worry I didn't sell mine at exorbitant prices lol. But at least I settled the extra ones! Hope their owners are awesome and not abusive hahaha like giving away real kitties liddat sia.
