Cherished Moments - Haircuts by Grandma

I always like to tell people,
"LET ME CUT YOUR HAIR FOR YOU.
MY GRANDMOTHER USED TO BE A HAIRDRESSER.
IT'S IN MY GENES."

Of course it's bullshit LOL.
But my grandmother really used to be a hairdresser, before she moved to Singapore
to take care of me after I was born.

Her "salon" was part of her single-storey terrace house,
where she had an area set up with mirrors, salon chairs and a hair wash station,
just like any salon out there.

I remember vaguely looking through the window from my room
and watching her work when I stayed over as a toddler.

Since she moved in to stay with us a looooong time ago,
she stopped working as a hairdresser, only occasionally
helping me cut my hair or perming her own hair.

She's been telling me that my hair is too long quite frequently these days,
so I asked her to help me chop off my locks today.

Before

This was taken a few days ago.
My hair was so freaking long, I might accidentally get wrapped
in it when I sleep and get choked lol.

Just joking haha. Touchwood touchwood.

I think this is perhaps the longest length my hair has been kept so far.
A bit 舍不得 to cut them actually...

So anyway, she agreed to help me cut my hair and we went to the bathroom to snip snip snip.

Cutting my hair layer by layer from the bottom...

Reaching the top layer~

Bare face shots woots.

She had to use newspaper to protect my shirt cuz she couldn't find the cloth she usually uses.
It works the same la haha.

After all these were snipped off...

After

Tadaaaa~

Nonono, it's not asymmetrical. It's just the angle + my head was a bit tilted haha.
The shorter side (left) is the actual length of my hair right now.

How I'd look if I tied up my hair

My ponytail used to be a horsetail lor, very long one!
I think it used to be able to touch the lower part of my upper back.
Now it's just below my neck.
I think it's great because now that my head is lighter,
maybe I can think better???
Hahahahaha.

Combing her own hair after my haircut~
This is my Popo (which means 'grandmother' in Cantonese)!
I'm really grateful to have her in my life and being able to see her everyday,
with the added bonus of getting my hair cut by her.

Thank you Popo! Muacks <3

Thank YOU for reading too:)

Saturdate

Today's post is filled with lots of mouth-watering nom-noms.
Hohohoho.

A while back, I took part in Teenage Mission: Gorgeous You! (click to read more about it) and I won myself $500 worth of Swensen's vouchers after winning the title of Ms Swensational.

I spent most of it with my family and friends, and I was left
with $60 which expires on 19/7/14.

I know I have to study, but isn't it damn wasted if I don't use them?
Besides, one needs a little break from studying to at least eat right?

So, me and Oink had late lunch at Earle Swensen's @ JEM yesterday~
I used to go to Swensen's only and didn't know about Earle Swensen's haha.
The first time I ate at Earle Swensen's was after my trip to the
Trick Eye Museum, but we didn't have any salad then.
You can read more here. (scroll all the way to the bottom)

Apart from the different menu, the biggest difference (to me) is that
Earle Swensen's has a salad buffet bar.

And the best thing about that?

ALL MAINS COME WITH THE BUFFET SALAD.

That's just plain awesome la!!

 Oink's salad

My not-as-pretty-looking salad haha

I have to say, I am absolutely IN LOVE with their Honey Coriander sauce!!!

Ps for being so noob because I didn't know what Coriander is,
but I gave the sauce a try and it was really nice so I googled...
And I found out that the Coriander leaf is this:

You know those leaves they always put on top of steamed fish and many other dishes?
I didn't know they were called Coriander leaves in English.
I love eating them!

Sorry for digressing but I think I look like a cow eating grass when I eat my coriander leaves.

So anyway, their salad was good! Free flow somemore hehe.

For my main course, I ordered their BONE-IN RIBEYE SET, which comes with the
free flow buffet salad and a free scoop of ice cream.

It is part of their Steak Feast promotion and you might need to check
if it's still available if you wanna try this.

Oink ordered SURF & TURF, which has a smaller portion of steak with 2 prawns and baked potato.

We had MANGO FLAVOURED ICE CREAM for dessert wheeeee~

One more serving of salad before leaving! (because it's free flow hehe)
This time I tried to make it look nicer hahaha.

I wanna thank Swensen's for the vouchers and lots of yummy food,
and I would also like to thank each and every one of you who voted for me during my pageant.
Xie xie ni men! ^^

Us feeling happy and full after our lunch at Earle Swensen's :)

Afterwards, we went shopping at NTUC Fairprice because Oink had vouchers.

LOL, it's as if it's Pay With Voucher Day or something. Hahaha.

Buy buy buy!

We siao already LOL.
See all those Pretz? We're crazy over the Thai Hot Chilli and Tom Yum flavours <3

I haven't been posting pictures of myself lately because I wanted to rest
my eyes and not put on contacts or makeup,
and I just didn't feel like taking pictures of myself.

But I was in the mood so here's a pic of my face and my outfit:

It's a dress I bought from Kiss Jane a long time ago.
It's so rare that I have a dress in this colour combination because usually I wear black
or beige coloured dresses.
I really liked this design, which is why I bought it xD

Here's another selfie of moi~
Yummy food + shopping for more food = super happy girl heheh.

Having uneven eyelids for no reason whyyy @#$%&

So yupp, that's all for today, thank you for reading! :)

Absolute Thai x Outlet Shopping

Last Saturday, I went shopping with my mum, uncle and aunt at
JOHOR PREMIUM OUTLETS.

It is a place in Johor (duhh) where many outlet stores are located,
with designer brands selling at 25% to 60% off usual prices.

IT'S A SHOPPING HEAVEN.
(to me)

We looked at brands like Juicy Couture, Kate Spade, Guess, Lacoste...
And I went home with a new pair of Carlo Rino sandals hehe :)
Selected designs were selling at 2 pairs for 99RM, so me and my mum
chose a pair each.
Thank you mummy! <3

Actually we were just window shopping most of the time luh.
Even though many of the stuff were on sale, they were either still kind of
expensive, or there weren't anything we liked particularly.

We had lunch at Absolute Thai.

It was the first time I ate there, and I guess the food was okay.

Our verdict:
The best dish out of those we ordered is the Tom Yum soup!

It's spicy and sour enough to make you feel shiok.
One of the nicer tom yum soups I have drank so far :D

The rest were not bad, but only the tom yum soup left me craving for more haha.

Just to digress a little, I'm a hugeeeee fan of tom yum!
I love tom yum ban mian, tom yum flavoured pretz and tom yum soup <3<3<3
TOM YUM YUM YUMMMMM <3

Hahaha okay before I go insane, I gotta go do my work already.
Btw, I had a really productive study session in the school library after school today~
Guess I should stay in the library to study more often haha.

Thanks for reading! :)

Mocktails

Some time ago, my mum bought me a shaker from a kitchenware sale
and I was so excited because I get to shake shake shake like
those bartenders in shows and movies. HA.

I asked Oink to impart me some recipes the other day and I tell you,
BEING A BARTENDER IS NOT AS GLAMOROUS AS IT SEEMS.

I had a hard time shaking the shaker continuously for what seemed like forever,
and halfway through my hands would feel frozen because the shaker was so cold.

You know how relaxed those bartenders look in movies?
I'm not even half as glam as them. LOL.

Anyway, here are some of the mocktails I made, along with some names I came up with.
The names are purely for fun hehe.

#01 Sunny Beach

O R A N G E   J U I C E  x  7 - U P  x  L I M E   J U I C E

#02 Zesty Jade

 O R A N G E   J U I C E  x  G I N G E R   A L E

Btw if you're wondering, it's green cuz I added green colouring.

#03 Sweet  Santarina

 W A T E R M E L O N   J U I C E  x  G I N G E R   A L E

I added the juices with the mixers at 60ml each, while I only squeezed
half a lime for Sunny Beach.

Of course, you can always make cocktails by adding alcohol.
I think about 7ml is alright, because I prefer the taste of alcohol to be really subtle.

My favourite out of these three is definitely Sweet Santarina.
I named it Sweet Santarina because the colour combination of
red and white reminds me of Santa Claus, but the taste of the drink is sweet and there's
just something girly about it.

It's not bad without the salt (which is what I used to rim the glass),
but when drunk with the salt, the taste is really special.
LOVEEEE IT.

Random side note: I just realised that the colours of the 3 drinks form a traffic light. LOL.

That day I kept trying the drinks, I ended up having to frequent the toilet lor. :/

One day after my A level exams are over, I'm gonna experiment mixing different juices and mixers.
And I'm gonna get my family and friends to try my concoctions.
MUAHAHAHA.

Okie that's all for today, thank you for reading! :)

Out and About

REJOICE!!!
Tests are over (for now)!

It's Youth Day today and we were chilling at a café called
Selfish Gene Café

Stepping in, this café gives off a vibe that made me feel at home.
It has a simple interior with earthy hues, nothing too flashy.

I really liked how the place is lit up by natural light by this:

It fondly reminds me of my grandparents' house in Malaysia, where I spent part of my childhood.
Bonus points for more homely feel!

This is the counter where customers place their orders.
Wondering why the café is named "Selfish Gene"?
Look closely at the picture for the answer!

I was greeted by this pretty chalk art feature wall when I turned around from my seat. :)

And now, the nom-noms!

Bagel & Smoked Salmon
I was up for some salmon action today so I ordered Bagel & Smoked Salmon.
I really loved it.
Just blogging about this makes me hungry again -_-

Btw that is not tofu, it's cream cheese. Lol.

The Valerie
My friend Rachel ordered The Valerie. LOL.
This one is a little sweet for me with all the berry compote, probably because I was having smoked salmon before I tried this.
It actually came with scrambled eggs instead of mushrooms, but you can request for mushrooms instead.

Beef Sandwich
The beef sandwich was not bad too!

Smoked Salmon Tartine Sandwich
Both salmon dishes cost 13 bucks, we just ordered different ones to try.

Lime Barley
I ordered lime barley, which is on the special menu that I think changes everyday.
It's refreshing, and the price of $5 is quite reasonable for a café drink.
But I feel that it's something that can be easily replicated at home.

I really enjoyed my dining experience at Selfish Gene Café.
The food is really good and affordable for café-goers, ranging from $5-$15.

With Gracia & Jenny~

Le Clique~

Afterwards, we walked around and this bookshop called Littered With Books caught our eyes.

It's a double-storey shophouse that's filled with books, and when we entered, we were welcomed by the lovely smell of books.
We spent a really long time browsing through their vast collection and relishing the relaxing atmosphere.

I bought myself an Agatha Christie book!
Her crime novels are really intriguing and I love them loads.

CAN'T WAIT TO READ ITTTTTTT!

And you know what? The world is so freaking small that we met 5 RVians today.
Met Shermaine at Outram MRT, 2 at the bookshop and another 2 when we came out!
世界很小 hor??!!

Here's today's coordinates! ^^
Credits to Gracia~

If you're wondering why I have such pretty photos for this post,
it's because I finally have the opportunity to use my new Samsung NX Mini camera!

No points for guessing the colour, because I am faithful to pink.

My new precious <3 <3 <3

I got it during the June holidays but I didn't have time to go out and snap pretty pics. :(
So far, I'm really happy with it.
A big THANK YOU to my parents for getting me my new camera! :D

That's all for this post, thank you for reading! ^^
